7 Ways To Reduce Indoor Toxins

Are indoor toxins lurking in your home?

It might sound frightening but your home might be awash in dangerous indoor toxins that you introduce into your home. Thankfully with just a few changes you can make a huge difference in the quality of your environment.

Use a Door Mat – At each entrance, place a door mat on the outside and on the inside. This will help eliminate many the toxins that might be tracked into the rest of the house on your shoes, such as bug spray, pollens, dust, and bacteria. Also, removing your shoes at the door will help eliminate tracking things through the house as well.

Clean the Floors Daily – Especially if you have pets. Vacuum, sweep and mop regularly to cut down on dirt, dust, and mites that get into the air. You don’t always need to use chemicals to clean. Just a quick sweep, vacuum, and a mop or better yet steam mop can do wonders.

Dust Down Surfaces Daily– Dust that consists of dead skin, dander,  and dirt among other things collects on surfaces in your home. Cleaning all surfaces regularly will help to cut down on the toxins. You don’t need anything special, just a dust cloth or wet cloth and a quick wipe will do the job if you do it on a regular basis.

Keep Humidity at the Right Level – Depending on where you live, you might need to either dehumidify or humidify your home. The perfect level is between 30 to 50 percent humidity. You can get a humidity tester inexpensively at Weather Shack. AcuRite Humidity and Temperature Station

Use a Radon and Carbon Monoxide Detector  – Carbon monoxide can kill you in your sleep and radon can cause cancer. Both are undetectable without a device and both are very dangerous. Nowadays you can get a good smoke detector that includes a carbon monoxide detector. You may need to purchase a separate Radon detector, but it’s very important to do this.

sanitizerUse Only Natural Cleaners and Scents – Believe it or not, even cleaning supplies and air fresheners can introduce dangerous indoor toxins into your environment. You can replace all air fresheners with Essential Oil alternatives and cleaning supplies with natural versions. I really love a 100% pure and safe product from Essante Organics that uses Stabilized Oxygen to kill germs. Even just using lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, baking soda or just plain water can work very well most of the time.

Improve Ventilation – If you cook in your home, which most people do, ensure that you have good ventilation for cooking. The same goes for fireplaces or wood stoves. All of these activities can cause a build-up of toxic chemicals that can cause reactions from sensitive individuals.

It’s amazing what we do in our own homes that can ruin the air quality and make our environment toxic. By cleaning up your environment you can improve your health exponentially. Thankfully, it’s not that hard to do and is very effective in reducing indoor toxins if you know what to do and stick to the plan.

Question: What are you without an immune system?
Answer: You are dead.

As morbid as it may sound, it’s true. When your immune system is weak you will get sick. When your immune system completely fails you will die.
