But for some of us, insomnia rears it’s ugly head more often than not. Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep, stay asleep and/or get a restful night sleep more than 2-3 nights a week.

People who suffer from insomnia are not only tired and falling asleep during the daytime when they’re supposed to be at work, they also get sick more often, and typically do not feel as well mentally, emotionally, or physcially as those who are able to get a good night’s rest. 5 Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper
by Jennifer Good

Have you ever considered Cayenne Pepper for Heart Health? Weightloss? or even pain Relief? You really should. Here’s a great in depth article to help you decide. Reprinted with Permission:  JonBarron.org Daily Health Tip Newsletter The Natural Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

Let’s face it Cayenne Pepper is Hot. Most people complain when they eat something hot that their mouth feels like it is on fire. Some even suggest that they will “pay for it” the next day – as if it is like eating a fatty burger or greasy French fries. Before you request your server to “hold the heat,” you might want to consider that this fiery fire could actually be good for you.

Cayenne Pepper can help with everything from gastrointestinal issues to blood pressure, ear infections, and even weight loss! It is also high in vitamin A, E, C, B6, K, and manganese. Just two teaspoons of cayenne pepper provide 47% of the daily value for vitamin A. Oh, and it just might stop a heart attack in its tracks! Read the rest of this entry »

Healing Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar For Athletes

Guest Post by: Paul Zaichik, Founder of Elastic Steele

Apple Cider VinegarApple cider vinegar is a product of apple juice fermentation. Sounds like nothing extraordinary, but indeed its benefits are immense. A.C.V. (Apple Cider Vinegar) health giving properties were well known long before our time. Hippocrates prescribed it as antiseptic. Greeks and Romans drank it as a beverage. Columbus took it on his sails. Samurais drank it for strength as did Babylonians and Caesar’s troops.

In modern times many authors have claimed to use A.C.V. for various purposes. Some have written testimonials on how they lowered cholesterol, normalized weight and increased energy in their patients and them-selves. If you as a reader find any of this interesting, feel free to do further research. I will only talk about my experience, with A.C.V. and how I think it can benefit an athlete.

Before I begin I would like to point out that the Apple Cider Vinegar I am talking about here is not the one you can find on a shelf of a regular grocery store. Most vinegar sold in chain stores is too diluted to have many health promoting qualities. What you want is the vinegar which is organic, raw and undiluted. This kind of apple cider vinegar is usually found in health food stores. A right type of Apple cider vinegar will contain many vitamins, organic acids, minerals, pectin, and enzymes.

Here is what ACV can do for athletes

Taken internally:

It replaces the minerals lost through sweat and used up for metabolic functions. Muscular contraction and relaxation cycle requires basic four minerals (Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, and Calcium) all of which are found in ACV. ACV also helps in elimination of lactic acid, thus speeding up recovery.

Start with a few drops per cup of water. Depending on your individual sensitivity and tolerance, build up to a teaspoon of A.C.V. per cup of water. Many people like the taste of this beverage. If you don’t, try adding a teaspoon of honey to the drink, as recommended by the famous Bragg family. In case you are allergic to the bee products try using dehydrated, raw, organic sugar cane in place of honey. You may be pleasantly surprised with the effect of this beverage on your athletic performance.

Applied externally:

It hinders the swelling associated with strains, sprains, bruises and sore muscles.

To use ACV externally, simply drench a cloth in the vinegar and apply to the target area. Cover with plastic wrap or a dry cloth. I have heard and personally known several cases where a potentially dangerous edema was greatly minimized by apple cider vinegar application. This substance may not be able to magically reverse the damage, but it can significantly slow down the swelling and speed up the recovery. As always, in case of injury remember to see a health care provider as soon as possible.

More Thoughts from Mellisa

Question: What are you without an immune system?
Answer: You are dead.

As morbid as it may sound, it’s true. When your immune system is weak you will get sick. When your immune system completely fails you will die.
