10 Tips To Help You Beat The Blues

depression

Major Depression is serious and often needs professional medical intervention. But I am not talking about that.  Sometimes we just feel blue, bummed out, defeated. Here are some tips on how to make yourself feel better when you’re feeling a little depressed:

1. Stay Calm

Even just a little bout of the blues can spiral you down into anxiety. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Take as many as you need and find your inner peace to stay calm. “This too shall pass” is something I like to remind myself of.

2. Feed your mind ONLY positive thoughts

When things aren’t going well, it’s easy to fall into a vicious cycle of negative thoughts. It’s important that you break this cycle as quickly as possible.  To do that, you need to feed your mind with only uplifting, positive thoughts. As often as you can, read spiritual texts, personal growth books, funny books, motivational books, or inspiring quotes.

3. Remember all the good times and good things in your life

Make a conscious effort to direct your mind to the good that’s all around you. Remember the good things in your life. Remember the good people around you. Recall the good times you have had in the past and focus on having them again.

4. Look at the big picture

An event that seems bad right now may not seem that bad if you look at the big picture. Put the event in context.

5. Believe that everything will be all right

What you believe has a big effect on you. If you believe that things will go wrong, they probably will. On the other hand, if you believe that everything will be all right, you will have a winning attitude.

6. Exercise

One of the toughest things to do, but one of the most effective ways to beat the blues is to exercise! When you’re feeling defeated, take the time to exercise, even if it’s just getting outside and taking a walk. Exercise releases toxins and raises key hormones and neurotransmitters that just naturally make you feel good.

7. Forgive

Sometimes you feel bad because you have someone to forgive. Perhaps you are feeling defeated because of some mistakes you made in the past and you blame yourself for it. You need to forgive yourself. Or perhaps someone mistreated you. You need to forgive them.

8. Take action

Things won’t get better if you just sit and do nothing. Instead of thinking about how bad things are, think of what you can do to solve the problem and take action.

9. Say something positive

Negative words have a devastating effect on your confidence and motivation. So whenever you’re about to say something negative, stop yourself and take a deep breath. Re-frame what you’re going to say and make it positive.

10. Think about other people

One of the best ways to make yourself feel better is simply by taking the focus away from yourself.  Start thinking about other people and how you can help them. When you do that, your problems will no longer seem so hard.

Question: What are you without an immune system?
Answer: You are dead.

As morbid as it may sound, it’s true. When your immune system is weak you will get sick. When your immune system completely fails you will die.
